Foret D'Andaine, France -- Fuel Dump

The next day we tried area bombing for the first time. The target was a fuel dump in the Foret D'Andaine. Because of a malfunction in the bombsight gyro, the first box missed the target. The bombs of the second box hit the target area. Captain Dunn and Captain Hulse led the boxes.

Mission #86 - 25 June - Foret D'Andaine Fuel Dump. There
isn't much written up about this mission, but it was termed successful.
Captain Dunn and Lt. Arrington, BN, with Lts. Cole and
Beck, BN, and Captain Hulse and Lt. Conte, BN led flights.
Again two more crews from the 668th flew on their first mission,
being Lt. Walsh and gunners, Wright and Novak, plus Lt.
Clausen and gunners Fetko and Brown. All ships returned
unharmed.
During non-mission days, crews from each squadron take
to the air in training sessions, sharpening formation flying,
bombing and navigational techniques, and generally making the
most of idle time, all resulting in better missions.

Thirteen sorties were compiled by the crews of our squadron on June 25th when we attacked the Foret D'Andoine Fuel dump. Lt Lawrence Johanns joined the organization to serve as Cryptographic Security Officer. During the evening, the organization was kept awake by four alerts caused by the rocket bombs. Concussion was felt during one of the alerts.

The 416th ran off two missions on the 24th and 25th of June, hitting fuel dumps and No-Ball targets. Little flak was seen and no ships were lost. Bombing results for these missions was fair.
