The attack was carried our anew on the 20th. Hitler's secret weapon, the Pilot-less Plane, had begun to cause considerable anxiety among the inhabitants of the southern coastal towns as well as Londoners. As a result we were again being called on to knock out the sites from which they were being launched. In the morning Major Dunn and Lt. Marzolf led two boxes in an attack on the Noball installations at Ligescourt. Bombing in flights of sixes, fair results were achieved which probably caused damage to the installations from concussion.

Mission #80 - 20 June - AM - Ligescourt Noball. Captain Dunn and Lt. Arrington, BN, led Box I with Lts. Marzolf and Basnett, BN leading Box II. Flights were led by Captain Hulse and Lt. Conte, BN, Lts. Morton and Madenfort, BN, and Lt. Shaefer and Lt. Burg, BN. This target required the formation to fly over heavily defended areas, where the 1st sergeants manned the anti-aircraft guns, so window planes preceeded the group. Window dropping planes were led by Lts. Sommers and McQuade, BN. Very little flak bothered the group. Bombing was classified from good to fair.

June 20th brought the POM inspection team to check on our
readiness for movement across the channel where we could be of greater
value in ground support. Nothing escaped the eyes of the inspection
team and they were well pleased with what they saw. Upon the
completion of their two day visit they gave us an excellent rating.
The Ligescourt and the Le Grande Rossignol noball sites were
attacked on the 20th in two missions. We had a total of 18 crews
flying on these two missions. Flight Officer Byrne joined the
organization as a pilot on this date.
"671st Bomb Squadron (L) Unit History"

After no mission being run the previous day, although there was a mission pending and a hot one too, the crews took off this morning on the same mission and to hit the same hot target. *Windows was carried by almost all of the ships, for the bomb run was right over Crecy Forest, notorious for its intense and accurate flak which it invariably throws up at the formations which pass overhead and within range of its guns. However, to the surprise of everyone, little flak was experienced, and the formation did a good job of bombing the No-Ball target. All ships returned safely.
In the afternoon the formation headed out over enemy territory for the second time. This time the target was on the 409th Bomb Group had for a target in the morning. However, they did their usual job of bombing, and the 416th had to go out in the afternoon against the same one. The target, a No-Ball about one mile from the one in the morning, offered the same flak dangers, but it turned into a milk run when flak failed to come up on the bomb run over the Crecy Forest...most unusual! Bombing was judged good to excellent and all planes returned safely without battle damage.
