Jackson, Lt Maltby, B-N, led the two boxes, bombing by flights of sixes, in an attack on an ammunition dump at Caudebec. Photo reconnaissance showed 30 craters in and east of the target area. One corner of the large rectangular building was destroyed by hits and another long narrow one was damaged. Lt Murray's plane was hit by flak, and he was forced to crash land in Southern England. No one was injured.

Mission #111 - 2 August - Caudebeck Airdrome. Major Meng with Lt. Powell BN,led Box I. Lts. DeMand and Hanlon from the 671 squadron, led a flight. Flak greeted the formation as they approached the target but that did not deter the bombing flights. Lt. DeMand's Bombardier did not pick up the target on the first run, so asked Major Meng for permission to take his flight in for a second run. Major Meng gave his okay so the flight turned off the Initial Point but the anti-aircraft gunners had taken a second look and re-adjusted their sights, peppering the flight, causing some damage, but no personnel were affected. The group bombing results were rated from fair to good. Lt. Cannon's plane had his right engine shot out, forcing him to land at an emergency base in Ford, England. His gunners, Sgts. Robinson and Brzenski were not injured. All other planes made it safely back to base.

Target: Caudebec (A/D) Results: Good
The 416th began its sixth month of operations in the E.T.C. on August 2nd, 1944 when the group went out in the afternoon to bomb an ammunition dump at Caudebec. Bombing was done by flights, and the flight representing this Squadron got a little more than they bargained for. Lt.DeMand and Lt. Hanlon, leading the 671st flight made their run on the target, but for some reason (still unknown) the bombs did not drop. Lt. DeMand asked permission from Major Meng, leading the formation, to make another run on the target. This granted the six ships went on another bomb run. This time flak came up in a steady stream and peppered the Squadron's ships...however, no injury to personal resulted. The remedy for the failure to drop on the first run was not found and the flight failed to bomb on the target, although two of the ships dropped near the target area by mistake. So there was quite a bit of battle damage for the Engineering section to work on. The Group as a whole got a rating from fair to good on the bombing.
