Notes: Pilot's Mission: Combat Nature of Accident: Crash on take-off Cause of Accident: Mechanical malfunction of propeller governor. Narrative: On 22 February 1945 Lt. Ban Noorden was scheduled to fly A-26B-20, AAF No. 41-39208, on an operational mission. However, while on the take-off run his left engine lost power. He applied brakes and cut his engines in an attempt to stop, but was unable to do so. Consequently, he ran off the end of the runway. His left gear and nose gear collapsed. Investigation disclosed that the pilot valve of the properrer governor had stuck, allowing the engine oil pressure to feather the left engine.
