Cause of accident: Left engine failure at low altitude.

Description:
[Shortly after he had] taken off, the left engine of Lt. J.P. Kenny's plane [failed and Lt. Kenny] crash landed the plane which was washed out. Although [Lt. Kenny suffered no] injuries, his two gunners, Sergeants J.K. Spadoni and F. [Noteriani were] seriously injured and were confined to the hospital.

For wounds received as a result of enemy action on 10 August 1944, while serving as Pilot of an A-20 airplane. Entered military service from New York, New York.

General Orders No. 157, 17 August 1944, Purple Heart is awarded to: 668th Bombardment Squadron (L), Frank (NMI) Noteriani, 20318628, Sergeant, Air Corps, United States Army. For wounds received in action while serving as Gunner on an A-20 airplane on a combat operational mission over enemy occupied territory on 10 August 1944. Entered military service from Coraopolis, Pennsylvania.
