Return to Table of Contents

Accidents, crash-landings or other incidents, sometimes fatal, frequently occurred during training and
routine flights, and many Aircraft and Crews were lost on Operational Combat Missions flown by the 416th BG.
Losses occurring during operational missions were documented as Missing Air Crew Reports (MACR);
many accidents were documented as Aircraft Accident Reports (AAR);
Purple Hearts were often awarded for injuries resulting from enemy action; while
some accidents, crash-landings, injuries or other incidents were never officially documented.
WWII 416th Bomb Group related MACR reports, AAR reports and other incidents are summarized below.
Reports for 416th Bomb Group members transferred from or to other commands are also included when available.
