Roy Burnette Surles, Sr.

Roy Burnette Surles was born August 10, 1922, Spotsylvania County, Virginia to parents George Cleveland Surles and Lizzie Purks Davis.

Roy enlisted in the US Army Air Corps on 30 December 1941 at Richmond, Virginia. For most of his Overseas WWII service, S/Sgt Roy Surles was a Crew Chief in the 66th Fighter Squadron "Exterminators", 57th Fighter Group, stationed in the Mediterranean Theatre of War. Prior to his return to the USA, he was transferred to the 669th Bomb Squadron of the 416th BG and returned with many other 416th BG Soldiers on the S.S. Marine Panther which sailed from Marseilles, France on 30 September 1945. S/Sgt Surles was Honorably Discharged on October 17, 1945, Fort George G Meade, Maryland.

Roy passed November 14, 1989 at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg City, Virginia.
