Joseph Francis Meagher age 98 passed away peacefully on April 6, 2019, Born 12/25/1920 to the late Edward James II and Margaret (Hogan) Meagher. Preceded in death by his loving spouse, Barbara, (Babs) Gregory Meagher. Father of Son, John Lee (Sandy), Bonnie Gregory Hanus (Jim),Christine Gregory, Nancy Gregory McSherry, Katie Gregory (Pablo Rodriquez) and the late Thomas Gregory III, and Michael Gregory. Brother of Alice Kelly of Bartlett IL (age 106), and the late Edward Meagher III, Pierce Meagher, Mary Little, Margaret Driscoll, and John Meagher. Survived by his Grandchildren Barney Lee, Johnathan Lee, Kathryn Lee Lavis, Veronica Gregory (Jeff), Joseph McSherry, Emily McSherry, Katie and Aaron Schneider, Toby Hanus, Liz and Brian Boyle A Great grandfather of 3 as well as Many nieces and nephews
Joe was a Captain in Army Air Corps from 1943-1947. Serving as a Pilot with the 416th bomb group, 668th Bomb Squadron. Joe flew 65 combat missions out of England and France. He Flew 2 Missions on D-Day and was Awarded 13 Air Medals, a Distinguished Flying Cross and several Campaign Medals. Joe earned The Purple Heart on his 65th Mission. He was Active in Veteran Reunions for many years. Joe was proud and passionate about serving our country in WW II. Joe was in the Office Forms Business for over 50 years. Joe ran his own company, Office Systems, in Cleveland. Joe lived at Laurel Lake Retirement Community where he enjoyed being commissioner of the “Quarterback Club”, telling stories of just about everything and engaging others in lively discussions. Joe’s sense of humor was his trademark. Joe lived a long life. he was A generous, loving man who will be missed by many. Funeral Mass will be held Friday April 12 at 11 AM. at St. Joan of Arc Parish 496 East Washington St, Chagrin Falls oh 44022. The Family Will Receive Friends from 10 AM until the time of service. Followed by lunch and burial at Munn Cemetery

Captain Joe Meagher, 668th Bomb Squadron pilot, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 6th. He will be remembered and sadly missed by members of the 416th extended family who came to know him well through Group reunions over the past decade. Joe was an exceptional pilot and rose quickly to positions of leadership in combat missions over France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. He was awarded the DFC, 13 Air Medals and the Purple Heart as well as multiple campaign ribbons and the Presidential Unit Citation. He was a patriot and a role model of the highest order.
