Colonel Theodore R. Aylesworth
Theodore R. Aylesworth, age 87, of Liberty, PA, passed away on
Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at Broad Acres Nursing Home, Wellsboro,
PA.
He was born on February 19, 1914 in Liberty Twp., PA, the
only son of the late Carl B. and Irene (Essick) Aylesworth.
Colonel Aylesworth retired from the United States Air Force in 1964,
having been in the military service since October 1933. At the
time of his retirement, he was Professor of Air Science at the
University of Maryland. He received several military awards and
decorations. Colonel Aylesworth also served as a government
representative for dignitary funerals. He graduated from
Mansfield State College, the University of Pennsylvania, and attended
Bucknell University. Mr. Aylesworth was a graduate of several
military schools, including the Air War College and the Joint Service
Staff College of the U.K. of England.
He was a life member of the
Coudersport Consistory, the Tioga County Early Days, the Tioga County
Historical Society, the Liberty Historical Society, and the Mosso
Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Aylesworth was
also a member of the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity at Mansfield College
and the Tiadaghton Chapter of the SAR. Mr. Aylesworth attended
the Liberty Methodist Church.
Mr. Aylesworth is survived by his
wife, marie (Stewart) Aylesworth of Liberty, PA; step-son, Monte
(Chery) Mase of Liberty, PA; step-daughter, Maureen (Richard) Messick
of Mansfield, PA; four step-grandchildren and three
step-great-grandchildren; nephew, Retired Colonel Dwight “Chester”
Swimley of FL. He is predeceased by his first wife, Wilda “Billy”
(Hubbard) Aylesworth in 1980; sister, Marjorie Swimley.
Funeral
services were held June 24 at the Scureman Funeral Home in
Mansfield, PA with the Reverend Lon C. Williams officiating and
interment to be in Salem St. Paul Cemetery, Liberty, PA with full
military honors accorded.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Aylesworth’s
name may be directed to the Broad Acres Nursing Home or to the Liberty
Volunteer Fire Company.
