Aircraft Serial Number (Type): 40-2301 (North American B-25B Mitchell) 3rd AF; 416th Bomb Gp; 670th Bomb Sq Reason: Take Off Accident Due To Engine Failure (TOAEF) Damage: Completely destroyed (4) Point Of Departure: Lake Charles AAFld, Louisiana Location: AAF, Lake Charles, La.
Notes: Nature of Accident: On take-off left wing dropped twice. Pilot said it was impossible to keep airplane flying so cut engines and made a "belly" landing. Cause of Accident: Pilot noticed no change in engines, etc., and was too busy to watch intstruments. Co-Pilot had same experience. Left Governor Control Cable came off the Governor Control Wheel; the tension of the Speeder Spring allowed the left propeller to go into full high pitch, resulting in loss of power in left engine, necessitating a forced landing. |
